![]() I checked "yes" because large groups often visit, which I assume make reservations due to their size. *FYI, you do not need to have a reservation. Olive Garden, Bob Evan's, Ruby Tuesday's, Plain and Fancy, etc could not hold a candle to Shady Maple, in quality or price. It was better than any restaurant in Lancaster. We were pleasantly surprised that it was better than Miller's. All in all, Shady Maple is one of the best meal options in Lancaster County. Dinner is more expensive, sometimes up to $20 per person, but it depends on that day's special. Oh, and perhaps most important, everything was delicious. All in all, Shady Maple was more suited for a family than Miller's, simply to due the innumerable amount of options. It had everything that Miller's had, but much more. French fries, mashed potatoes, steakS, shrimp, fried chicken, milk, coffee, sodas, juices, grilled chicken, ham, pork chops, PIZZA, burgers, salads, fish, hot dogs, etc. On the otherhand, Shady Maple has thos and favorites and more. On one hand, Miller's has great (but pricey) dining options and a menu that sticks to traditional Lancaster/Amish favorites. However, the cuisine more than made up for this loss. The overall atmosphere was not better or equal to that found at Miller's (which overlooks an Amish corn field). The walls were adorned with fitting decor, such as painting of Amish country or even quilts. Before we even caught glimpse of the food or dining area, we were already in love with Shady Maple. It was fancier than the Best Western or the Howard Johnson's. We visited our respective restrooms, and boy, they were amazing. We walked in and were greeted by an enormous lobby/waiting area. We visited Shady Maple and were almost dumbfounded. However, our last trip we tried something new. It had become a tradition for my family to dine at Miller's Smörgåsbord the day we arrived in Lancaster. This place completely destroyed my expectations. The good reviews are likely to be by older tastebuds with no sense of taste or those who only care about bulk amounts of food. Good luck! Stick with the Amish gift of making pretzels, home made ice cream, kettle corn, jams and so much more that is quality tasting. Although it was years ago, we seem to remember Millers being better. Do't get me wrong- we are far from food snobs and we also have plenty of padding ourselves, but this place was sheer gluttony and with food that left us unsatisfied, feeling disgusting, and sorry that we went. As you look around, the clientle also leaves a lot to be desired. Sloppy and drowning in sauces and glazes. Ham, catfish, roast beef and steaks- Certainly enough variety. The grills and carving stations were a nice touch. This is one we will surely forget-the food is not even fresh from the Amish!! Potatoes and mac and cheese were instant Fried foods were old and greasy-sitting in its own oil. My husband and I are foodies and love a good buffet- Some of the best being at the Wynn in Vegas, and the Borgata in Atlantic City, those are just to name a few memorable ones. Plenty to choose from, but if it is quality you seek then look elsewhere. The first thing you can't help but notice is the sheer size of the buffet itself-it is HUGE. You will NOT leave hungry, that is for sure. If volume is all that you care about, then this is for you. Beautiful lobby, gift shop, and the dining room itself is lovely. The place is very overwhelming upon entering.
